5 essential steps to improve your Google search ranking.

1. Audit your website. 


Are you talking to your ideal customer? Is your content engaging and trustworthy? Are you using the best words for your industry, products and services? Google rates the quality and quantity of your content, your expertise and authority, and your reputation. This means the copy on your website is super important.


2. Find the best keywords for your business.


You want to be found for the right reason. Choose a few keywords and phrases that you want people to type in to find you. There are a number of online tools that help with keywords. One of the easiest ways to work out the most popular words and phrases for your industry is typing your ideas in Google Search and seeing what suggestions pop up. There is also a keyword planner in Google Analytics and another popular free service is Uber Suggest.

3. Include your chosen keywords in your website copy. 


Once you have found the keywords to use you need to incorporate them into your website copy. Many website builders and plugins can assist you with adding them to the website simply. You want to make it clear on your focus and expertise but be careful not to overdo the use of the keywords. Your headlines, image descriptions and page descriptions should include the keywords relating to the page topics and your business where possible.


4. Write articles that are educational, useful and engaging.


Websites should be updated regularly with new content and the best way to do this is be posting blogs/articles. Plan your content carefully and create sub-categories which relate to your business. Be strategic about what you write about and how you use the keywords in your copy. This is known as SEO Copywriting. This is how you showcase your expertise and build trust with your reader and Google! SEO copywriting is content marketing and is one of the key ways to be found by Google when done right.

5. Sit back and watch your organic ranking on Google improve. 


You can pay for Google Adwords so you are found for certain keywords but you may find you pay a lot with little success. It does depend on your business and your competitors. However, actioning the steps above can cost you nothing or very little if you employee someone like me to assist. It may take a little while for your content to start appearing organically (at no cost to you) in Google search but in the long run it offers better Google rankings without ongoing costs.
